Why "Educator of Que"

I am a professional chef of 30 years.  I graduated of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York. I was awarded the 2008 Presidents Award from the American Culinary Federation for my efforts in promoting and teaching the spirit of barbecue.

I teach several classes at The Culinary Center of Kansas City in Overland Park, KS (MBQI-Midwest Barbecue Institute) and at Smoke N' Fire® BBQ & Fireplace Store.  My signature class is the Art of Smokology® and Backyard Grilling 101.  I have now taught over 500 classes and teaching over 11,000 people in the past 8 years.

I love to pay it forward with some things I have learned from all my years as a chef in restaurants specializing in using wood fire grills. I love to teach and meet new people, I have learn as much from the students as I have from my experiences and travels across the country.

It has been an honor to be in front of so many people, sharing my love for this art. I was humbled 2 years ago to win the ACF President's Award, this award means more to me than any other award I have received.

There are many chefs and instructors out there across the country promoting this GREAT cooking adventure, together we have all built a GREAT American Cuisine.

Thanks to everyone who fires up that grill or smoker to entertain and joy food.

Chef Richard
